“_so I remember as a teenager, I would skip meals at school to save up for guitar pedals. I also had access to the family computer which had an old copy of Fruity Loops installed on it (the software is now called FL Studio). So what I would do was punch in some beats with the built in drum machine, and then I would hook up a cheap acoustic guitar through my effects pedals, straight into the little green 3.5mm mic jack found on sound cards of the time to record stuff_”
“_I never formally studied music, nor did I really gain proficiency at a musical instrument. Hell, on a bad day I can’t even keep a steady 4/4 beat. However, music gave me life, and despite my mediocrity, it was not enough to keep me from continuing to make music_”
“_I got really lucky in that I got to play in some bands back in the day. Not everyone's as fortunate... Few things in life are as awesome as playing music with friends_”
“_during my college days in Chicago, hip hop really grew on me. I got my own laptop, picked up a turntable, a sound card, some midi controllers and had a blast sampling and cutting up tracks_”
“_with exposure to more experimental music in recent years, I’m digging that noisy, droney, glitchy stuff_”
“_now I’m based in HK, working on a PhD... and in terms of music, I’m not super duper active. But I still try to put out tracks and remixes whenever the mood hits. Also whenever I get the chance, I still do perform a bit here and there_”
